[ Peter hadn't even made it into the hotel yet when something happened. His Spideysense screams at him quite suddenly to move and he yanks Ned back with him just as a car seems to come careening out of nowhere and crashes right into the entry doors of the hotel the two boys were to be staying at. He give Ned a concerned look before starting to move over to see if the driver needs help only to narrowly avoid being shoved out of the way as the driver flings the door open and takes off down the side walk. ]
Seriously!?
[ Peter throws his hands up in exasperation before starting to give chase. He's supposed to be on vacation but he'd a feeling that his chaotic life would have never allowed that. He turns to run backwards so he can shout back at Ned. ]
I don't know what that guy's problem is but I hear sirens so, I'm gonna go web him up. Tell Happy I'll be back in flash!
[ He turns back around so he can run faster, pulling his mask out and slipping it over his face. Once he has Karen sort of tracking the guy he ducks into and alley to finish changing into his Spider-Man suit and webs his backpack to the nearest wall. Hopefully he can find it again later. ]
[ For now though, he aims his web shooter up and fires a web up to the top of a building and pulls himself up-he moves much faster this way so its much easier for him to catch up to the guy and drop down in front of him. ]
Hey buddy, you totally almost ran people over, that's not cool. [ He informs the man who seems quite shocked to see a spandex clad kid drop from the sky. Peter takes the opportunity to web him quickly to a wall. ]
I think you should chill out here for a bit and think about what you've done.
[ Peter yawns heavily, not at all fully awake having stayed up way too late telling Ned all about his day yesterday, including meeting Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and then watching Alien Convent on Ned's Laptop. He barely heard anything Happy told him about their plans for the day just that he had that Stark Gala thing he had to go to later in the evening. According to Ned, Happy had gone off to talk to Tony and would be back for them after breakfast. ]
[ Which is exactly where Peter is now, the plate in front of him is filled generously (three pancakes, four sausages, two bagels and bowl of fruit salad) He takes the carton of chocolate milk, pokes a straw down into it and takes a long drink before glancing around to see where Ned is at in the buffet line. ]
[ at some point, Peter had fallen asleep staring up at the temporary tattoos he'd somehow managed to superglue to the ceiling, his phone clutched lightly in his hand. When he'd fallen asleep, he'd felt okay-his throat was still a little scratchy, he was still coughing a little but for the most part he thought the cold or whatever it was, was going away. ]
[ That is not the case when he finally wakes up-his head is aching, his stomach feels like it's twisted itself into weird knots and he just feels stuffy. Maybe it isn't just a cold after all-or it mutated. Either way, he does not feel even remotely okay and takes a second to feel for his phone, squinting at the brightness before sending a quick text. ]
They lost. There was no other way around it-they lost. Peter had to watch their team fade away into dust, his Spideysense going haywire the whole time-for a moment he'd thought that he was next but somehow, he managed to stay. Tony managed to stay and the blue lady-Nebula managed to stay.
It took some doing but they managed to get Quill's ship running-sort of. Nebula had told them something about jump points and she didn't think they had enough fuel for that. So... day one of drifting aimlessly through space was officially a go.
and it look less than an hour for Peter to get bored. He'd found Groot's room at some point and a hand held video game device? At least, that's what it looked like, so Peter took up a seat and started up the game, frowning when he saw the battery was already low.
He tried to keep his mind off bad things-particularly what Thanos had done. How many people were lost. He kept the volume down on the video game but the moment he gets creamed he groans loudly, frustration having built to the breaking point.
Peter starts his morning the way he usually does-he wakes up in his bunk, his hair a complete mess and feeling very much like he should just keep sleeping. However, it's new people day. The train is going to come out of the void and pick up new people from that weird train station. Which means he's up a little earlier than normal and pulls on clothes. He leaves the polo though and pulls his hoodie over his head and moves out the door.
He fights off a huge yawn before going to the dining car for a bit of breakfast before the electronic voice above alerts them exiting the void. He sticks where he is and once the jolt is over goes about like it never happened.
It isn't long before they stop and they can exit the train. Who's coming aboard this time? He's not sure why but there's an uneasy feeling deep in his stomach about today. Maybe he should have just stayed in bed.
He shoves the thought aside and steps out of the train, the doors sliding open. They moment they do his senses don't just prickle like they normal do on new passenger day, the SCREAM at him that something is wrong-that he's in danger.
Automatically, he starts to look around for the source and spots it so quickly his head feels like it's spinning and his skin feels like it's crawling. His stomach is tying up in knots and he starts to back away before he can be spotted.
He recognizes that almost white-blond hair and that deceitful smile. Shit! Where's Buttercup? Where are the other kids? He looks around to see if he can find them but it doesn't seem like they've gotten off the train yet.
What should he do? There's no way they can get away with just leaving him here, is there? But Skip can't be allowed near anyone-he won't allow it.
"Einstein! Long time no see!" Peter hears that bastard talking and realizes a second too late he's crossing over to him with that stupid smile and almost friendly-like swagger of his. Almost like he didn't even care-like what he'd done was nothing.
Peter opens his mouth, a little. He wants to tell him to go away, to get the hell away from him but he can't, it's like he's stuck-the words are lodged in his throat and all he can do is look on helplessly as the man approaches. He feels just like he did when he was ten-he's too scared to move.
Peter has to say that today has been one of the worst he's has in a long, long time. And that's saying something because pretty much every day is a bad day when you're Peter Parker. He over slept and missed his chance for a quick breakfast with May and then missed his bus and then somehow missed his stop on the train.
He might have made it to school on time if not for an alert on his phone informing him that the Daily Bugle had updated. He should just ignore the website but he needed to know what lies Jonah Jameson was spreading about him this time.
He pulled his phone up and pulled up the video, frowning at the headline. 'Kraven Vs the Spider Menace.' Kraven? That guy with the outdoor hunting show? Unable to help himself, Peter clicked the video and watched the interview with Jameson and Kraven-apparently the hunter had a new prey he was after-Spider-Man.
"He can't do that!" Peter let out. The elderly gentleman sitting by him on the train looked over and rolled his eyes.
"The things people do for ratings these days." The man said. "Hey kid, isn't this your stop?"
"Huh?" Peter asked the guy as he looked up at the sign on the train and paled. He almost missed it! Or... did miss it. The moment he was on his feet the doors slid closed. "Oh man..."
At the next stop, Peter rushed out the door, hopping on one foot as he gets turned around. Midtown wasn't too far from here-He'd just have to swing his way there.
Or that had been his plan. What happened instead was he was ambushed by Kraven the hunter and his tv crew. Gave them a quick quip somewhere along the lines of 'sorry guys, can't play with you right now-I'm late for school!'
Somehow, Peter didn't even make it to school. He couldn't. With this crazy hunter on his tail, every where he turned, every time he was about to change out of the suit-there was Kraven. How was he tracking him so well?
Peter groans throws out another web and jumps away, not listening to whatever creepy comment Kraven had to offer.
"Yeah, that's cool. Maybe take some therapy and stop chasing poor Spiders that didn't do a thing to you?" He offers, crawling up to another rooftop.
And it never stopped. No rest, no time for lunch, no time for even school-oh man, May was gonna kill him. But he'd had every intention of going to school! Honest!
It's nearing one in the afternoon and Peter didn't have breakfast and he's had no time to himself since Kraven got on his case. God, he's so tired.
"Peter, I'm indicating your blood sugar has dropped. I recommend stopping to eat." Karen offers.
"Can't do that Karen, I got this whacko chasing me. Hey can you ask Mr Stark if I can chill with him for a bit?"
"Sending message to Tony Stark." Karen offers.
"Thanks! If I don't get hunted before he gets that message-let him know it's kinda an emergency."
At this point in his life, Peter really wishes he could just not go on field trips anymore. They've never been what he would consider fun. Historically, Field trips have just gone badly for him. Even getting bit by that spider sucked even if it did come with cool super powers.
He slips into his first period class and moves to the back to sit by Ned, noting the class seemed a little restless, even for a field trip day. He drops his backpack down on the desk and looks over at Ned who is quick to explain there was a sub today-something about their previous teacher having won the lottery. How nice for her. Did that mean they wouldn't be going to the science museum?
[ One year ago, Peter had walked into Oscorp labs in its previous location and managed to somehow get bitten by a radioactive spider that had given him the abilities of a Spider. In about three weeks it'll be a full year since the death of his Uncle so Peter isn't feeling particularly jazzed at the moment. If he'd known that part of going to Midtown meant taking a field trip to Oscorp once a year he might have had second thoughts. ]
[ The tour didn't start out too bad, he steered clear of Flash's group and pointedly ignored his taunts about 'last time.' He stuck close to Ned and MJ and right around two the tour was over and no disasters had happened. They were all lined up to leave and head back to the school and for one glorious moment Peter thought that maybe this time nothing bad would happen. ]
[ And then Loki walked in the door. ]
[ And then they were on lock down. Which didn't really make a whole lot of sense to Peter because he was pretty sure a 'lockdown' wouldn't hold a God. ]
[ He shoots a look at Ned, his eyes wide and lips tight in a 'Dude!' kind of look because-look! it's Loki! And he has no real idea what to do in this situation. He's not alone in that as his teacher also seems to be at a loss and is just standing there like a deer caught in headlights. Clearly, everyone seems to be in mind set that if they don't make any sudden moves he won't see them. ]
A downside to being on the Academic Decathlon was the increased number of fieldtrips that took him out of town which were only a downside to him due to all of his fieldtrips ending in disaster. He somehow managed to get separated from his group and he was pretty sure no one would believe him if he said it was an accident. He wouldn't even believe him with how often he sneaks off.
Not that any of that mattered right now because somehow, someway after getting separated he walked into some kind of mafia meeting which-a hotel in Jersey is a really weird place for the Mafia to meet up-but that aside, since he's just Peter Parker at the moment he couldn't exactly fight back beyond some weak struggling. He'd have to bide his time and wait for the perfect moment to pull his arms and legs free of the tape. Right now, the guard kept checking on him too much and he couldn't risk anyone seeing Peter Parker do anything Spider-Man relate.
Damn he was going to be in so much trouble after this. He lifts his arms up and frowns at the duct tape just as the guard pokes his head in again and warns him not to escape.
"No problem. couldn't even if I wanted to." He stated, flashing the man a thumbs up. "But why am I here?" He walked in on something shady, sure, but why was he still alive? Or were they waiting for said shady business to conclude and then kill him? What shady business were they up to anyway?
